Conspiracy of Love
This is the time of year where the whole world is united in a conspiracy of Love. ❤
To quote my favourite movie at this time of year, Love Actually:
"If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that Love actually is all around."
Whether you are religious, a non-believer or crazy about Christmas, this time of year brings us all together in the spirit of love and giving. It’s such a special period of kindness, compassion and thinking of others. Be it buying gifts for family and friends, cooking meals for your loved ones or donating something to someone less fortunate than yourself, blessed is this season where the whole world engages in the conspiracy of love.
I am not big into Christmas, but I do love this time of year for its kindness and love that everyone showers upon each other. I so wish we could all treat each other this way all year round. I love getting to together with my special humans, I love cooking great food for them, hanging out, giggling, loving together. Aaah Love. My most favourite thing.
I was raised in a Catholic family and home. My uncle is a Catholic priest. In my teenage years, I started to search outside of this religion for other teachings and to find a deeper understanding of myself. When I was nineteen I found Yoga. My mom and I have spent many hours talking of the differences and similarities between the teachings of Yoga and the teachings of Jesus and we’ve come to the conclusion that all religions have a common basis or thread running through them. This commonality is LOVE. On the other hand, my father and step-mother are atheists but the commonality of love runs through their beliefs as well. Love is what unites us all, brings us together and shows us that we are all the same.
When I talk, think or teach about God, the Universe, or a Higher Power, what I’m referring to is absolute unconditional love. I believe that this is the energy we are all made up of. This is the energy of the stars that lie within each of us, our commonality as spiritual beings having a physical experience.
The teachings of Yoga have led me down this path of unconditional love, kindness and compassion. I try each day, each moment, each thought to embody this energy, to send this energy out and to see every other being as this energy. My beloved teacher Ram Dass taught to “Love Everybody and tell the truth”. My dear teachers Sharon Gannon and David Life taught me the mantra “Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu - May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts words and actions of my own life contribute to that happiness and freedom for all.” My greatest teachers are my parents. My mother, who taught me to be kind no matter what and treat others how you wish to be treated, and my father who taught me that generosity of the heart brings true abundance. Both embody unconditional love in my life. My darling husband teaches me self-acceptance and loving respect with every moment we share.
I have been so blessed to be able to receive these teachings from so many different sources and put these teachings into practice every moment of every day. When you start to see this commonality of love in everyone, you start to understand that we are all the same. We are all looking to love and be loved, to be happy and healthy, to share this experience with our loved ones. Once you start to shift your perception to see love all around, it is literally impossible to escape. The more love you put out there into the universe, the more it comes back to you.
Unconditional love can be quite a heavy concept though because we’re taught to put conditions on our love for others. If you do this for me I’ll love you more. If you don’t do this, I will take my love away. This is not the love I am speaking of. I’m speaking of a love that has no conditions. I’m speaking of a divine, universal energy that is not dependent on others, or their actions. It’s a love that comes from deep within, sprinkled onto everyone you meet, no matter their past, their beliefs or their views. A love that helps you understand someone else’s point of view. A love that makes you be kind to strangers. A love that allows you to reach out to others with support and kindness. A love that gives you the permission to be yourself fully and presently and to give that love away unconditionally with no expectations of return and strings attached. Can you possibly imagine a world where everyone truly loved each other unconditionally? Imagine if we gave love away freely, uninhibited, openly, without any expectation. This is the world I wish to live in and it’s my job to create that world.
So, I love. I give love away in every possible situation, to every being whether they have given me love or not. Because every being “deserves” love, and kindness and compassion. Like another dear teacher of mine says, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” If you want to live in a world of love, please join me in this blessed life to engage the whole world in a conspiracy of love. Look for the Love, everywhere, and if you can't find Love where you are, BE LOVE WHERE YOU ARE.
The divine love in me recognises, respects and appreciates the divine love in you. When I am in that place in me and you are in that place in you, we are one.
