A note to my fellow Humans.

I know you are all busy right now prepping for the lockdown so this will be a quick note to remind you to keep breathing, keep being understanding and compassionate and to take this extraordinary opportunity to go within.

Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah

Sarve Santu Niraamayaah

Sarve Bhadraanni Pashyantu

Maa Kashcid-Duhkha-Bhaag-Bhavet

Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih

May all be happy

May all be free from sickness

May all look to the good of others

May none suffer from sorrow

I have been chanting this Vedic prayer non-stop for the last 3 days. As our country, South Africa, moves into lockdown for 21 days, we, as privileged humans with homes and food and support, have the opportunity to really do some important work over the next three weeks.

We have the choice now to panic and be drawn into the hysteria, to shut down and block everything out or we can get down to the business of really turning inwards. We can practice Yoga in the most important way, and that is to go within, allow all of that unresolved energy you’ve been too busy to address to come up. Allow yourself to sit with it and give yourself the permission to it let go. I encourage each and every human in this time to go within to sort our shit out so that we can all come out of this stronger, healthier, more connected, more balanced and more compassionate.

Its moments like these that being Yoga students and practitioners is so beneficial. We train for this every time we step on the mat, every time we sit in meditation, every time we come into savasana. It’s simply about surrendering to this moment right now, turning inward and really, without judgement, getting to know yourself. This time could be about being still, inviting the parts of yourself that you usually shush into the light. This time could be opening yourself up to your own creativity, your own compassion and your own love. You have the choice on what these next three weeks will be like, on what your life will be like when we emerge from this extraordinary experience.

I will be here to help and support each and every one of you as best as I can. I will continue uploading classes, sharing my story and teaching Yoga to whoever needs to receive these valuable teachings. Reach out if you need help, guidance or support. Reach out if you want to talk about something more in-depth. Reach out if you’re feeling lonely and need a friend. I am here for all of it.

Our dear and wonderful teacher Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu says:

“One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu - the essence of being human.

Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation.

It speaks about our interconnectedness.

You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity.

We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World.

When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”

Even though we cannot be together physically through this, we can be together in Love.

The divine light in me recognises, appreciates and respects the divine light in you. When I am in that place in me and you are in that place in you, WE ARE ONE.

I’ll see you in the Light, darling humans.

Keep breathing, keep being kind, keeping loving each other.

P.s. Please stay at home, please don't visit anyone, please be conscious of our precious fellow humans and their vulnerabilities, even if you "feel fine". If one is suffering, we are all suffering. We are ALL in this together.

Sending Love, peace and calm directly to your hearts.
