Hi! I’m Dom Catto.
Yoga has been part of my life for nearly 15 years and it has dictated the course of my life since the first moment I stood on a yoga mat.
I first discovered Yoga in a very challenging time in my life. My dad invited me to a class to try to get me to stop crying for a bit and I fell utterly in love. I always thought that I was shy and had a fear of public speaking until I took the seat of the teacher and started teaching Yoga.
Over the years I’ve trained under truly remarkable teachers, having done two Vinyasa teacher trainings in South Africa, the Jivamukti teacher training in New York and a Yoga Therapy training in India. I have taught Yoga all over the world, having connected with thousands of humans and it is the most rewarding and satisfying act I could possibly do.
My most favourite thing about these practices has been that they have reintroduced me to myself. They have allowed me to get to know my body and myself deeply and intimately. They have helped me move along a path of kindness, compassion and respect for myself and for others because we’re all trying to figure this life out and we’re all in this together.
Yoga has taught me how to be unapologetically ME, and I could not be more grateful for that!
My husband, Nick, and I started this business together and he is my student in the Yoga for Beginners modules.
We met in 2016 and have been developing a respectful friendship and deep bond together since. My favourite thing about our relationship is how much we laugh together.
Our name, Vula Yoga, comes from a very special place in South Africa, our home country. Both our families have holiday homes on the border of the Kruger National Park, literally less than 5km from each other, and we’ve been going on holidays there all our lives. Mansimvula is where Nick’s family stay and it’s where Nick proposed to me. Mansimvula means “to open the waters”. As this is such a special corner of the planet and so significant to us, we decided to incorporate it into our name. In Xhosa and Zulu, Vula means open, turn to, to become open, to open for each other.
We thought this was the perfect energy with which to infuse our business, encouraging beginner Yogi’s to be open to the life-changing practices of Yoga.
